Great burnet was appreciated by Louis XVI in Versailles.
Very much valued in English gardens, it arrived in North America with the May Flower passengers.
Cultivation:
Great burnet grows spontaneously in Western Europe.
It is easy to cultivate in all temperate and warm climates benefiting of a calcareous and well drained soil.
Uses:
The leaves of Great burnet have a flavour similar to cucumber with a nut after taste and a little bitter.
Leaves are used in salads, sauces and fruit salads. They can even be preserved with vinegar.
Great burnet is an important ingredient for the green sauce of Frankfurt.
