Description:
It was Fransisco Pizarro, well-known conquistador, who in the XVI century brought from Peru some nasturtium seeds in Europe.
Louis XIV introduced it in France with the name "cress of Peru".
Its name in French comes from its resemblance of its flowers to monks’ hoods.
Cultivation:
The flowers of nasturtium are harvested in summer up to the frost.
Uses:
La nasturtium tastes of cress.
Leaves and flowers are used mixed with salads and other crudités or to make a marinade.
Buds and seeds can be pickled, in order to eat them like capers.
