Description:

Its name derives from the fact that the plant flowers on the day of the feast of the archangel Michel.
It also keeps away the plague neutralises the effect of  poison et prolongs life.
The odour of the root attracts deer. European and North American hunters used it for this reason.
Angelica is also called "angel herb", "holy hope herb" or "archangel".

Cultivation:
Nowadays it is cultivated in France, in Germany, in Belgium, in Italy, in Poland and in the Czech Republic.
The leaves are collected as they appear towards the months of May or June.

Uses:
The petals and the stalks are used in cake making and preserves, as preserved fruit, (speciality of the town of Niort).
The leaves are normally used to flavour salads and soups.
The grains and stalks are used to make liqueurs.
